Fortress Vlotho
Tower

Renewal of a medieval Fortress, 1998 - 2005, Ostwestfalen-Lippe

The whole composition of fortress Vlotho is dominated by a telecommunications tower formed, like the other interventions, with a steel structure and a steel mesh cladding. It provides a suitably austere identification mark for the renovated castle and its new role in civic life. The rectangular layout of the tower is made out of eight trapezoidal surfaces, thereby the tower rejuvenates towards the center. The graceful shape of the central part of the tower integrates the functional technique into the poetic context. The liveliness of the tower arises out of the superimposition of transparent metal mesh and classic support structure.
